R.G. de Rouen grew up in Carmel, California, and is a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature in Connecticut. He has been working these past 27 years as an elementary teacher in international schools throughout the world.
Born in Korea to an American father and a German mother, R.G. considers himself to be a true “Third Culture” kid. Not only later in life, but also as a youngster, his family moved a lot. His parents always stressed the value of getting to know other cultures, which his wife and he have tried to pass on to their two daughters.
Books For Benjamin is his first book for children. It tells the story of a worm who is different from his family and sets off to pursue his dream of finding "real" books. Like Benjamin, R.G. can’t live without books!
Mother To Elephants, R.G.’s non-fiction picture book biography, portrays the life of Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Her dedication in rescuing baby orphan elephants in Kenya, serves as a great inspiration to children and adults alike.
